Quit Smoking Now

I’ve got plenty of time to quit smoking

I don’t smoke that much. My grandmother lived to a 100 and smoked 40 cigarettes a day.  They over hype the damaging effects of smoking. I’ill stop smoking when I’m 50. I only smoke when I drink, so I’m not really a smoker.

These are the things we say to ourselves to stop us from quitting smoking. Yeah, who’re we kidding? Ourselves, our health, and the health of people close to us.

The tobacco industry can be likened to a mafia type organisation. They have done their utmost to fight legislation on graphic-warning labels & non branded cigarette packs.

Smoking remains the single greatest cause of preventable death and is one of the primary causes of health inequality in the United Kingdom. Smoking is responsible for 87,000 deaths in England each year. Picture warnings were introduced on all tobacco packaging produced for the UK market from 1 October 2008.

A recent High Court UK ruling upheld the plain packaging on cigarette packs.

So the Government is fighting back in an effort to improve the health of the nation.

Quit smoking to improve your health

Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known cancer-causing (carcinogenic) compounds and 400 other toxins. These include nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide, as well as formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, and DDT.

The Government has a duty to warn the public about the harmful effects of smoking.

There is not sufficient room on a cigarette pack to list all the 4000 chemicals and the side effects of each of these.  Any medication you buy nowadays has a leaflet inside that explains the contra indications and side effects of the medicine you are taking.  You would need a enyclopedia size leaflet to inside a packet of cigarettes to warn any potential user of the side effects.

It’s always a good idea to encourage people to quit smoking. Many people who do smoke secretly want to stop but need support and help to do so.  The picture warnings on cigarette packets are not just for the smoker, but are also seen by close family members including young children.  Young children can influence their parents to seek help to quit smoking.

One of the most successful ways to stop smoking is by using hypnotherapy.  It has been shown to be three times more effective than nicotine replacement therapies.
