low self-esteem

Does low self esteem show up in your life?

Low self esteem is related to inner self worth, feeling good enough, worthy or loveable.

It is believed that issues with self-esteem stem from childhood. It’s the negative stuff that we tend to hold on to, pushing aside all the positive experiences we have.

Our relationships with our parents, family, friends, and teachers can shape the opinions we hold about ourselves. During adolescence we struggle to feel comfortable in our bodies and/or accepted by our peers.

Sometimes it’s a significant life event such as abuse, illness, or even a betrayal that can cause self-esteem to plummet as we blame ourselves for the things that happen to us.

It can be debilitating to be prevented from achieving things in life because of low self esteem. It might stop you leaving, finding and maintaining a relationship. Enjoying a fulfilling and healthy life can seem impossible.

You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affectionGautama Buddha

Self esteem shows itself in different aspects of life including eating and body dysmorphic disorders, addictions, depression, workaholism, hypersensitivity, and self sabotaging routines.

Hypnotherapy for self-esteem
can identify and challenge any negative behaviour patterns you hold and encourage positive change through the power of suggestion.
In the deeply relaxed state of hypnosis, your subconscious is more receptive to ego boosting suggestions than through conscious speech. The primary aim is to encourage self-empowerment and reduce any negative self-talk you have. Thus promoting the development of long-term, healthy self-esteem.

confidence

How does a lack of confidence show up in your life?

Low confidence and self esteem can overlap in certain respects. Confidence is related to the action or belief of carrying something out, whereas esteem is related to an inside out feeling. In some ways, it’s easier to build confidence than self-esteem

Perhaps you feel confident in some aspects of your life but less so in others? Possibly you lack confidence in speaking in public or at job interviews? ( Don’t worry you’re not alone, as many as 90% of people are afraid of speaking in public). Maybe you want to find a partner, but something is preventing you from doing so?

What about improving your performance at sport, passing your driving test, or picking yourself up after being made redundant?

Confidence builds by taking action and stepping outside your comfort zone. Success is not a destination; it’s a journey made up of stepping outside your comfort zone.

There are numerous tools and techniques within the hypnotherapy, NLP framework that can boost your confidence from the inside out.

A study was performed to test the effects of hypnosis on the self-confidence of 22 university faculty (Stanton, 1995). Treatment consisted of hypnosis involving visualizations of confidence, both feeling confident and visualizing themselves as being confident. Relaxation training was also used to reduce any fears or anxiety. Evaluations showed that all 22 participants had improved and sustained levels of confidence following the study and during the follow-up evaluation.Stanton, H.E. (1995)

Grief & Rejection

Are you living a life devoid of love?
So many of life’s problems have their origin in the removal of love. From a complete lack of love, through to grief and rejection; it can come in many forms and from many people, including our parents, friends and partners. We feel rejected after the breakdown of our relationship, especially if we have been cheated on by our spouse. We lose close family and friends, sometimes suddenly and traumatically.

We accumulate emotional scars in childhood, during adolescence and throughout adulthood. These emotional scars accumulate, and we find ourselves drowning in grief and unable to cope with life.

Loneliness can be as harmful to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
PLoS Med 2010

We all experience these at some time, in a particular form, at some level. With time most of us can move on; although others struggle and enter a prolonged state of ‘parasympathetic shock’, which makes their life intolerable. It’s probably the deepest of pain and hurt, which left untreated can lead to all sorts of physical and emotional illnesses.

Fear

What are you afraid of… and why?
We fear dying; we fear living. We fear endings; we fear beginnings. We fear stagnating; we fear changing. We fear success; we fear failure. Fear lurks in our shadows and follow us around in life. We may think that if we ignore our fears, they’ll go away. But if we bury them, they continue to affect us and bring us more sadness. Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. However your fears don’t need to dominate your existence. Free yourself from the grip of fear and find your way back to peace.
